School projects

It is Thabang Mokoeana’s objective to teach children the tradition of African music and dance from an early age on. In this spirit, he conducts regular workshops and singing events at various Ratanda primary schools.

In 2012 and 2014, Qhaqholla Primary School was the partner of Heidelberg/Germany Symphonic Youth Orchestra in the musical exchange project between Germany and South Africa.

In 2009, Fountain Five Primary School was the partner of Heidelberg/Germany Symphonic Youth Orchestra in the musical exchange project between Germany and South Africa.

Due to the Charta of Friendship between Heidelberg in Germany and Heidelberg in South Africa, Thabang Mokoena co-operates with Eva Buckman and Sigrid Biessecker (Heidelberg/Germany Music School). In 2009, 2012 and 2014 the Heidelberg/Germany Symphonic Youth Orchestra visited South Africa: 35 young Germans aged from 11 to 16 years met with 80 South African children from Ratanda primary schools in a musical exchange project. Thabang Mokoena conducted workshops for the South African children, and at the same time Eva Buckman and Sigrid Biessecker prepared the German orchestra to play South African gospels. During the three visit of the German youngsters to South Africa, the German Symphonic Youth Orchestra and the South African children’s choir performed in joint concerts.
